Carmen Jones is a 1954 American musical film featuring an African American cast starring Harry Belafonte, Dorothy Dandridge, and Pearl Bailey and produced and directed by Otto Preminger. The screenplay by Harry Kleiner is based on the lyrics and book by Oscar Hammerstein II, from the 1943 stage musical of the same name, set to the music of Georges Bizet's 1875 opera Carmen. In 1992, Carmen Jones was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.
Carmen Jones (1954) with a spectacular cast and opera at it's most passionate. The film takes us on a journey of a feisty and sultry young woman working at a bustling parachute factory, who gets herself in to a bit of a brawl leading her to be driven to a non-military police base by Air Force officer, Joe.
