Handsworth Creative CIC was formed in 2013, is based in Handsworth and operates across North Birmingham.

Since forming we have undertaken a series of community-based arts activities in the Perry Barr and Ladywood Districts over the last five years. We specialise in Visual Arts projects and are currently involved in organising the Handsworth Park Arts Trail, a three-year Arts Council England funded project that will result in 6 new pieces of public art being commissioned and installed in Handsworth Park. In 2017 and 2018 we ran the Aston and Newtown Cultural Commissioning funded project, Veranda Stories, working with older people in Newtown and Aston from African-Caribbean and Bangladeshi backgrounds.

We also completed the short film ‘Gypsy Boy’ in 2018 that was inspired by the recently discovered evidence that Charlie Chaplin was born on the Black Patch site in Handsworth, and by the continuing Romany involvement with the site. The successful premiere night was held in Handsworth and was attended by key members of Charlie Chaplin’s family.
